90 Minutes to Close the Loop, Episode 7
Episode 7 of our web series covered the challenges of packaging waste management in touristic destinations and key actors in the glass collection & recycling value chain shared examples of good practice and main challenges ahead of them.
Is the tourist a different citizen or consumer to when he/she is at home? What are the main challenges for packaging waste and glass collection management in touristic destinations in peak seasons?
Answers to these questions we received from speakers with diverse backgrounds.
Cláudia Monteiro de Aguiar, Member of the European Parliament opened Episode 7 by giving us a general overview of the EU Strategy for Sustainable Tourism.
Eduardo Santander from the European Travel Commission was the keynote speaker and he addressed the EU strategy for sustainable tourism and the role of effective waste management in promoting touristic destinations.
Two interesting case studies were presented:
Beatriz Egido, Director of Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility, Ecovidrio presented good practice of “Bandera Verde” Initiative in Spain.
Anna Diniakou, Business Project Development Manager and Christos Reklitis, Project Manager, HERRCO (Hellenic Recovery & Recycling Corporation) were talking about “Blue Bells” Initiative in Greece
With above mentioned speakers, Christophe Baron, Sourcing Leader France, O-I joined the panel debate on the main challenges for packaging waste and glass collection management in touristic destinations.
