Collecting Glass in a Historic City Centre – Granada [Case Study]

We’ve just released a new Close the Glass Loop case study video showcasing how Granada, Spain has achieved a remarkable 36% increase in glass packaging collection for recycling over the past three years.

 

At Close the Glass Loop, we recognize the importance of case studies as they offer invaluable lessons from real-world experiences, enabling others to apply these insights to their own initiatives.

Juan Carlos Gonzalez Molina, Director General for Cleaning, Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Health of Granada City Council (Ayuntamiento de Granada), shared with us how they made it happen in collaboration with Ecovidrio.

• The use of digital tools and artificial intelligence for container geolocation and developing a predictive model for glass collection.
• A dedicated strategy to make glass collection accessible both for citizens and waste management logistics in the historic city centre of Granada, characterised by narrow, huddled streets.
